Barcelona Land Economics Gathering-October 2023
October 20, 2023

A few months later, LAI London President Max Farrell travelled to Barcelona for the annual land economics gathering, representing the London chapter. This event really opened my eyes to the power of LAI as a global networking organization, with meaningful conversations and connections made between 150 delegates from around the world. The Barcelona chapter really excelled themselves with the programme, ranging from a behind-the-scenes tour of the opera house to A. to a guided tour of Les Sagrada Familia from the architects in residence. It was a real treat to be amongst the first people to see the final tower. Which had recently completed Gaudi’s masterpiece. It was also an unexpected lesson in land economics, given that the majority of funding has come from donations, which is why it has grown organically over centuries, whilst keeping up with modern methods of construction including some off site manufactured elements in recent years.
