Sacramento May 2022

Plus Icon Close Icon

About 70 members of Lambda Alpha International gathered in Sacramento May 5-7 for the first Land Economics Weekend since the onset of the Covid pandemic.

Attendees enjoyed observing the development changes in Sacramento since a LEW took place there more than ten years ago, in 2011, exploring improvements in the city’s downtown and edges, as well as good conversation and elegant dining. Members arrived from Spain, Canada, and around the United States to share their strategies, ideas, and opportunities.

Los Angeles Fall 2022

Plus Icon Close Icon

The Fall 2022 Land Economics Weekend, hosted by the Lambda Alpha International Los Angeles Chapter, brought about 80 attendees to Southern California, to gain insights about the local economy and new developments in the city and county of Los Angeles. The weekend was filled with opportunities that, to quote LAI International President, Gary Leach, “helped us to explore ‘under the skin’ of the city.” Attendees stayed at the beautiful and historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, on 5th Street and Grand, overlooking the infamous Pershing Square.

Barcelona October 2023

Barcelona October 2023

Plus Icon Close Icon

For a long time, international gatherings hadn’t taken place in Europe. However, in fall 2023 our Land Economics Weekend was organized in Barcelona for the first time and it was a great success.

We have renamed this the X -LEW as over 150 members from the USA  and Canada crossed the Pond to meet their European colleagues and because it lasted one day longer. (eXtended -LEW) . Barcelona is the first Spanish spot for international tourism and the third European LAI chapter, founded after the LAI Madrid and LAI London chapters . Therefore, this setting was a great opportunity for both learning and growing professionally, and enjoying the local culture with our local community members.

Phoenix 2024

Plus Icon Close Icon

Municipalities working in cooperation. Finding the missing middle. How low housing supply hurts affordability and affects homelessness. Recrafting a master planned community for today’s needs. Reviving an entertainment district. Bringing desert to development, responsibly. And zoning’s unintended consequences. Those were some of the themes that resonated with the nearly 100 attendees at the 2024 Land Economics Phoenix Gathering, held October 16-18 and hosted by the Lambda Alpha International (LAI) Phoenix Chapter. Three days were devoted to LAI executive planning, recognizing outstanding contributions, and exploring and gaining insight into topics relevant to the Arizona Valley of the Sun – the booming West Valley, housing affordability, and responsible water use.

Montreal 2025

Montreal 2025

Plus Icon Close Icon

The Montréal Land Economics Gathering (our re-branded LEW) was a great success. Members representing 23 of our 26 chapters and their guests, numbering over 140 attendees, participated in great programs, local tours, and socializing in this Canadian metropolis. Attendees learned about robust efforts to address the affordable housing crisis; were introduced to the potential of AI for impacting all phases of design, planning and development; toured a major new shopping and life-style center; and learned about the dynamic St. Lawrence seaport and expanding transportation hub represented by our host city. Offering Old World charm along with cutting-edge technology, historic architecture and delightful dining venues, Montréal was an excellent choice by the LAI Gathering Committee, led by Cheryl Soon (Aloha). Tim Youmans (Sacramento), and Ian lord (Simcoe) were Co-Chairs for the Gathering supported by many members of the Gathering Committee.
