Tour of the Empire State Building’s Green and Sustainability Initiatives
September 18, 2025
On September 17th, LAI New York chapter members and guests had the rare and fantastic opportunity to tour the Empire State Building from bottom to top (from the basement plant to the 102nd story observatory) with Dana Schneider, Senior Vice President, Director of Energy and Sustainability at Empire State Realty Trust. Dana shared the story of the building’s stunning Art Deco restoration and its industry-leading sustainability initiatives, which now exceed dozens of energy and environmental standards. From innovative retrofits to real-time efficiency systems, the visit provided a powerful glimpse into how a historic icon can lead the way in green skyscraper transformation. Thanks to the retrofits and other energy-saving investments, the Empire State Building now beats the standards set by NYC’s 2019 Local Law 97, which establishes building emission limits on CO2.
Additional information about the vital efforts of Dana and her team on their sustainability successes can be found at https://www.esrtreit.com/sustainability and https://online.flippingbook.com/link/751766.
