Alan Nevin, LAI San Diego member, LAI Fellow and Director, Land Economics Foundation, is an economist and demographer who devotes his practice to providing clients with the information they need to make major decisions on real estate investments. He also provides the same depth of service to the legal industry as an expert witness.
UC San Diego is one of the fastest growing campuses in the UC system with an enrollment approaching 50,000. One of its newest departments is Urban Studies and Planning which houses the Real Estate and Development” (RED) major.
The Real Estate and Development major receives valuable strategic guidance and philanthropic support from its Real Estate and Development Advisory Board. Several of its Board members are LAI members including Jeff Graham (UC San Diego’s Executive Director of Real Estate), Sean Spear (President of Community HousingWorks) and Alan Nevin, Director of Economic Research, Gafcon.
One of the RED’s major strengths is its Faculty which includes a number of adjunct instructors from the real estate industry. Included are LAI members William Anderson, Chris Clark, Nathan Moeder, Matthew Boomhower and Diego Velasco.
Bill Anderson is a lecturer in applied urban economics, market analysis, and city planningatUCSD. Previously, he was a national Principal for Economics at ARUP and Director of City Planning + Economics, Americas at AECOM.
Bill’s government experience includes serving as Director of City Planning and Community Investment for the City of San Diego; Deputy Chief Executive of the Redevelopment Agency and member/chair of San Diego’s Planning Commission.
Prior to serving in government, he was a Sr. VP at Economics Research Associates, overseeing the Economic Planning practice group. Bill served as national President of the 38,000-member American Planning Association from 2013-2015 after chairing APA’s Economic Development División.
Chris Clark was inducted as a member of LAI San Diego in 2025 and elevated to a board of directors seat in 2026. Outside of LAI, Chris lectures in real estate development and planning at UCSD and serves as the Executive Director of ULI San Diego – Tijuana, a professional association focused on developing the leaders who shape the future of the built environment in the binational region.
At ULI, Chris has expanded the organization’s focus beyond professional development programming and toward more direct community impact initiatives that leverage the skills and knowledge of ULI’s practitioners. These Technical Assistance engagements have provided visioning and guidance for diverse stakeholders dealing with brownfields, redevelopment, placemaking, housing attainability and more.
Chris has been instrumental in hosting the Urban Land Institute’s national conference in the San Diego region, with an attendance of more than 5,000, as well as launching the annual Regional Housing Summit program delving into issues of innovation, sustainability and affordability.
With more than a decade of experience in local public affairs, economic development, and nonprofit management, he has focused his work on supporting community efforts to strengthen unique cultural and civic assets. His career has included positions leading community outreach for infrastructure projects, public policy analysis, and regional economic development.
Nathan Moeder is the principal at Moeder Advisors, a real estate research firm. He serves as a strategic consultant who advises a wide array of clients from the perspective of real estate economics. His clients include real estate developers, investors, corporations, financial institutions, businesses, and public agencies. Project assignments span all real estate sectors, including residential developments, office buildings, industrial, hotel, retail, and mixed-use projects. He brings extensive experience and financial expertise as an advisor and analyst to many successful projects and assignments throughout North America.
According to Moeder, “Real estate taught me that value isn’t what you build — it’s what you leave behind. I know one day we’ll all be gone, and it will be up to future generations to solve the problems we couldn’t. Given everything I’ve learned, I see it as my duty to pass that knowledge forward, so those who come after us are better equipped to build a better society.”
Prior to his current role, he was partner at London Moeder Advisors where for three decades he directed studies on multi-family and commercial properties and served as an expert in litigation matters. Due to his vast work experience, he is widely considered the one of the West Coast’s foremost authorities on financial feasibility for real estate and investment projects. Nathan was recruited by UCSD to facilitate the financial analysis curriculum and currently teaches three courses on financial feasibility, valuation and investment. Nathan has over 25 years of teaching experience and has served on the faculty at University of San Diego, Woodbury University and UC San Diego.
