Meeting Up in Chicago
November 24, 2025
One of the greatest benefits of LAI membership is meeting interesting people and forging friendships through a mutual interest in Land Economics.
In November, Laurie Marston, Greg Weinsich, Cheryl & Ray Soon met up in Chicago while the Soons were visiting there. Each has twenty plus years of attending Land Economic Weekends (now called Gatherings).
Laurie and Cheryl are both past International Secretaries and each received the honor of being Member of the Year. Greg has been an engaged member for more than twenty years. And Ray is a member of the Plus One Club.
Following lunch, Laurie and Greg provided a wonderful tour of their neighborhood in Fort Sheridan, which was part of the base relocation and closure program. Fort Sheridan opened in 1888 to serve as a training center for calvary and parade grounds. It closed in 1993. Several Chicago-area LAI members had a role in the re-use, which is a wonderful collection of housing types from former officer homes to adaptive reuse of buildings and stables.
There is never enough time to share when there is so much to learn from one another. But through LAI, bonds are regularly made and celebrated for meaningful professional connections.
KeyNotes are submitted by LAI members. Many submissions reflect the author’s professional opinions and views on relevant issues concerning the organizational mission and purpose of LAI. LAI, as an organization, does not take a position on Keynote submissions, and supports providing an open forum of ideas forwarded for thoughtful consideration. Submissions should not be construed as LAI endorsements.
