LAI-LA members are invited to a special tour of three new ground access facilities at LAX that are anticipated to greatly improve the experience of arriving and departing at LAX. The LAX Metro Transit Center, which opened to the public in June 2025, brings passengers from throughout the region to LAX without a car. We will tour the ConRAC and Automated People Mover station before they are open to the public.
After the tour, attendees are invited for no-host lunch at Costero Bistro located in the Sheraton Gateway – Marriott at 6101 West Century Boulevard.
The Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility is one of the major components of LAX’s Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP), approved in 2018. It consolidates rental car operations (previously spread across the surrounding area of LAX) into one location conveniently located adjacent to the 405 freeway. The ConRAC facility directly connects to LAX’s Automated People Mover (APM) train system. This means that rental car shuttles will no longer be needed to shuttle customers to and from the Central Terminal Area (CTA), which will result in the elimination of more than 3,200 daily rental car shuttle trips on the surrounding streets and into and out of the CTA. This electric train will provide time-certain access to LAX terminals, parking and pickup and drop-off curbs, in addition to the new Metro Transit and light rail system. The APM is a 2.25-mile elevated guideway with six stations – three inside the Central Terminal Area (CTA) and three outside of it. The APM will operate 24/7 and will be free for ticketed passengers, airport employees and those picking up and dropping off travelers. Approximately 30 million passengers per year are anticipated to use the APM when it opens, with an estimated result of 117,000 fewer vehicle miles traveled per day.
