Making Vancouver a Truly Global City

London, New York, Paris, Tokyo…. cities that we know as important nodes in the world context. Characterized by wealth, power, and influence, they have been global magnets for people and business for decades, if not centuries. As we look to the future, however, there are questions percolating about whether there is a transformative shift underway, and whether the long-standing “top” global cities will continue to maintain prominence over the 21st century.

This question frames the conversation about Vancouver’s role as a 21st century city and region in the global context. This was an important query as the 2020’s dawned; it portends to be of even greater consequence as we navigate the current global pandemic.

We are delighted to have the opportunity to hear from Professor Michael Goldberg, who will share his ideas on what in his view makes a truly global city; how Vancouver can be considered a global city now and where it falls short; and what needs to be done to enable Vancouver to be a truly global city / region … and an exemplar to be emulated by others.
