Canada is experiencing significant demand growth for rental housing, which is driving the need for higher quantum and diversity of rental housing supply. This webinar will explore the range of demographic and economic trends influencing existing and future rental housing needs, and how municipalities in Ontario and British Columbia are embracing innovative regulatory and financial tools and programs to accelerate purpose-built rental housing development. This will be explored through a series of interactive proformas and feasibility assessments that will illustrate the opportunities and challenges of constructing purpose-built rental housing.
Learning Objectives (3-5 takeaways which support LAI purpose and contribute to the advancement of land economics)
- Draw on North American experience delivering rental housing to identify factors which promote the overall supply of rental housing and the supply of units affordable to modest income households. The first webinar will focus on the Canadian rental market. Subsequent webinars will highlight American experience.
- Using interactive proformas, expand member knowledge of the impacts of changing land, construction, financing, and/or fees (such as municipal development charges) on rental housing delivery.
- Enhance and contribute to the built environment and quality of life in communities by supporting a range of rental opportunities.
