This webinar is a follow up to the LAI Global webinars of 2024-10-08 on Construction Defect Liability co-sponsored with UC Berkely Terner Center for Housing Innovation, and 2023-10-06 webinar on ‘Home Ownership in Transition – A Canada/California Comparison’.
California needs more for-sale homes in walkable, job-rich areas. Yet there is limited land for single-family homes and only a small share of new multifamily construction are delivered as condominiums (apartments for sale). The financial complexity of building condominiums has made homeownership housing increasingly scarce in California. Luckily, most of the international community overcame this problem with new home deposits. New home deposits are when prospective homebuyers put down protected down payments that allow prospective buyers to help finance construction, rather than competing in bidding wars for older homes already on the market.
