LAI Membership is extended by invitation only. Candidates must be nominated by active members and vetted by their local chapter. Because our members are among the foremost land economics professionals in the world, each nomination has a screening process that carefully examines expertise, accomplishments, and values.
Some of the minimum requirements necessary for nomination:
- Have 10 or more years of experience in your area of practice
- Be professionally distinguished
- Be an outstanding contributor to the field of land economics
- Demonstrate high standards of professional ethics
- Be committed to public service

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES:
Active Member, LAMBDA ALPHA/Local Chapter
- Performs professional work associated with land economics
- Is involved in a local chapter
- Currently pays LAMDA ALPHA and LOCAL CHAPTER dues
Active Member, LAMBDA ALPHA At-Large
- Performs professional work associated with land economics
- Currently pays LAMBDA ALPHA At-Large dues
Retired Member
- Retired from professional work associated with land economics but wishes to continue active membership
- Currently pays dues
Emeritus Member
- Has maintained active status for 20 years
- Served in leadership positions at the Chapter or International level
- Retired from professional work associated with land economics.
- Nominated by Chapter’s Board and/or by the International Board and elected by the International Board of Governors.
- No International or Chapter dues required
Honorary Member
- Might not perform professional work associated with land economics but has made significant contributions that deserve recognition
- Nominated by a local chapter or by petition of twenty active at-large-members of LAMBDA ALPHA and elected by the International Board of Governors.
- No dues required
International Fellow of LAMBDA ALPHA
- An active member whose efforts have significantly advanced the purposes, organization, or growth of LAMBDA ALPHA.
- Fellowship is bestowed by the International Board of Governors
- No International or Chapter dues required
