The Board of Governors of Lambda Alpha International Land Economics Society (LAI) has chosen Hazel Ruth Edwards, Ph.D., FAICP, the 2024 recipient of its Richard T. Ely Distinguished Educator Award.

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, the LAI Suncoast Chapter underdevelopment hosted its second official event at one of Lakewood Ranch’s (LWR) three town centers. LAI’s chapter in Pune, India co-hosted a one-day nationwide conference on “Securing Water for Food, Energy and Environment” at MIT-WPU, World Peace University in Pune. Pune is a college town (“the Oxford of the East”) and also an automobile manufacturing Hub. At 4 million people, Pune is the second largest city in the state of Maharashtra (Mumbai is the first and India’s, Economic financial capital).
LAI Global Initiatives sponsored a webinar on Home Ownership in Transition - A Canada-California Comparison on 2023-10-16.
The webinar featured a moderated panel with experts from the legal, insurance and regulatory perspectives and explored the differences in construction defect legislation and project financial risk between acceptance of condo housing (5 or more units, apartment or townhome) in Canada compared to California. 38 percent of the new housing added in Canada between 2011 and 2021 was in the form of multi-family condos (5 or more units), compared to an estimated 3 percent in California.
The webinar recommended California consider the systems in place in Canada to encourage multi-family home ownership.
