Ed Zuercher

Executive Director
Maricopa Association of Governments

Ed Zuercher is the Executive Director of the Maricopa Association of Governments, the council of governments and metropolitan planning organization for the greater Phoenix/Maricopa County region. Prior to joining MAG, Ed had a 28-year career at the city of Phoenix, serving the final eight years as city manager. He retired from Phoenix in 2021, spending a year as a local government consultant with a Big 4 accounting firm before joining MAG in early 2023 to spearhead MAG’s successful effort to get an extension of the countywide Proposition 400 transportation plan approved by the state legislature and signed by the governor.

Ed will address the following, followed by audience Q & A:

  1. What is the current status of programs?
  2. What was the path to getting a bill on Governor Hobbs desk?
  3. What was the deal that got it across the finish line?
  4. How are cities supplementing/planning for the proposition?
  5. What happens if prop 479 does/does not get approved?
  6. What has been the economic impact of the transportation dollars spent from the original ½ cent sales tax and the first extension?
  7. What is the current state of affairs with large projects on 17, 10, the loops and the future 11?
  8. Update on planned population growth and planned transportation improvements.
