Regina Hammond
As a resident and homeowner in the Johnston Square community in East Baltimore for more than 30 years, Regina founded the Rebuild Johnston Square Neighborhood Organization nine years ago as President, becoming Executive Director in 2021 as the organization's work expanded. Recent accomplishments include the launch of Phase I of 300 new and rehabilitated homes and apartments in partnership with ReBUILD Metro, including construction of Greenmount and Chase, a new 60-unit affordable housing apartment building; the renovation, renaming, and grand reopening of Henrietta Lacks Education Park; adoption, beautification, and maintenance of multiple vacant lots through the Johnston Square Art and Garden Walk; and a weekly food relief program during the COVID pandemic serving 200 families. Future plans focus on implementation of the 2020 Johnston Square Vision Plan, including a world class athletic field and community greenspace across from Historic St. Francis Academy.
Sean Closkey
As founding President of ReBUILD Metro, Sean has spent the last 15 years building the organization into one of the premier community development organizations in its region, beginning in partnership with the faith-based organization BUILD (Baltimoreans United in Leadership Development) and leaders in the Oliver and Greenmount West communities of East Baltimore, and now also working with the adjacent Johnston Square community. That work has helped Sean hone ReBUILD’s model of revitalizing communities by building on the strength of local assets and neighborhood leadership, and he has used this model to lead the visioning, financing, and completion of over 1,000 homes in East Baltimore and beyond. Sean has spent over 25 years in government and nonprofit leadership positions, including Director of New Jersey’s Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency.
