West Side is the Best Side
3333 California Brings Large-Scale Development to the West Side
San Francisco’s sleepy west side is about to see its largest housing project in generations. The Prado Group and SKS Partners have received approvals to transform UCSF’s Laurel Heights office compound into 560 homes, 185 affordable senior units, 35,000 square feet of retail, and a childcare facility for 175 children. Never before has a project of this scale been proposed – much less approved - in this part of the fog-belt.
First a part of one of the City’s early cemeteries, this 10-acre site was converted into an office park for the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company headquarters in the 1950s before UCSF purchased it in 1985 for its own use. Today, history is repeating itself as many of the same neighbors who litigated UCSF’s proposed use of the property 35 years ago are again asking the courts to stop Prado’s approved plan.
Join us to learn about the near-decade worth of work that went in to 3333 California Street. Hear from Dan Safier, President and CEO of the Prado Group, as he and his team lead us through the story that spans two District Supervisors, three Mayors, five architects, and more than one hundred fifty community meetings. From transaction to entitlement to politics, this is truly a project like none other.
