The Barnes Museum - http://www.barnesfoundation.org/collections/art-collection/ I was able to book two private docent-led tours for LAI members at The Barnes museum on Sunday, April 30 (one tour at 11 AM, and one tour at 1 PM), after the official end of our LEW schedule on Saturday night. Each tour will last approximately 1 hour, and I have reserved space for up to 30 attendees at each tour time. In order to reserve a spot in one of the tours, our members / guests need just do the following: Call Colleen Delaney at 215.278.7222 (no later than 4 pm on Friday, April 28th). Tell her you would like to reserve a spot in one of the LAI private tours on Sunday, April 30, and specify the 11 AM or 1 PM tour Give her your credit card information. cost for the tours is $47.25 per person, which includes the private docent-led tour, as well as full access to the museum for the rest of the day (including the “Person of the Crowd” special exhibition featuring works by over 40 street artists). If any LEW attendees have the ability to extend their trip and be in Philadelphia on Sunday, this would be a great way to see one of Philadelphia’s most impressive cultural institutions. For those who aren’t familiar, The Barnes museum (barnesfoundation.org) features the art collection of Dr. Albert C. Barnes, who during the early part of the 20th century curated one of the world’s finest collections of post-impressionist and early modern paintings, with extensive works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Henri Rousseau, Amedeo Modigliani, Chaim Soutine, and Giorgio de Chirico, as well as important examples of African sculpture and American craftwork and decorative arts. A documentary titled “The Art of the Steal” (available on Netflix) offers an entertaining (if biased) account of the controversial effort several years ago to relocate Dr. Barnes’ collection from his suburban estate to a brand new museum on Philadelphia’s premier cultural boulevard. |
