The Evolving Shopping Mall
Scott Richardson,
Vice President of Development, Simon
The mall environment is changing.
Department stores, once the anchors and drivers of traffic at malls, have lost relevance in the face of a changing retail landscape. In addition, expansive parking lots are being repurposed, as attitudes toward density and parking evolve. And mixed-use development is responding to residents’ desires to live in walkable, amenity-rich environments.
Scott Richardson is a 25-year veteran of Simon, the largest shopping mall operator in the U.S. He will share how Simon has found opportunity in repurposing and enhancing the “mall campus” – and how the future for malls may be brighter because of it.
Richardson is vice president of development for Simon, a global leader in retail real estate ownership, management and development and a S&P100 company.
