HAWAII
WEEKEND EXPERIENCE
FUN IN THE SUN AND IMPORTANT WORK
FOR YOUR BOARD OF GOVERNORS
As we look forward
to our fall Biennial Congress in Honolulu, the event promises to
be filled not only with great fun but also with very important work
for your Board of Governors.
You've read
about the wonderful accommodations at the Outrigger Reef Hotel that
will be available to all our members at a reduced rate. That is
matched only by the reduced rates that have been made available
at other Outrigger Hotels on the Neighbor Islands during the weeks
following the Congress.
Additionally,
the tours planned by the Aloha Chapter will give us an insider's
view of public and private efforts to manage scarce land resources
in this highly valued tropical environment. We are especially eager
to hear from the Honorable Jeremy Harris, Mayor of Honolulu, who
will speak to our Friday luncheon. Perhaps one of the few mayors
of a major US city who is also a marine scientist, Mayor Harris's
talk will undoubtedly emphasize the importance of the ocean to land
values and development of the city.
In all, our
colleagues in the Aloha Chapter have gone out of their way to make
our stay memorable and we hope that you will take advantage of this
rare opportunity to see Hawaii-not only as a tourist but also as
an insider.
Your Board of
Governors will be hard at work during our weekend. The board is
currently considering a measure to revise and update our society's
by-laws. This is the culmination of a year-long effort by your International
Secretary, J. Craig Williams, your Executive Director, Terry Stevenson
and many other members of the Board of Governors. We expect that
the revisions will further enhance the operations of Lambda Alpha
International.
We are also
pleased that the Congress will host a presentation of the biennial
international awards. As you've read in the latest print version
of KeyNotes, a number of your colleagues will be honored at the
Outrigger Reef on Friday evening, November 7 where we will be treated
to a delightful dinner as our honorees accept their awards.
The Biennial
Congress will also mark the transition of leadership in LAI from
the presidency of Roger Kallman (London Chapter) to that of our
new president, Larry Lund (Ely Chapter). The new board will assume
their duties at this meeting and we hope that you will be there
to congratulate both retiring and new board members in this 73rd
year of our society.
